While relatively weak in the beginning and while many jokes can fall flat, 8-Bit Theater has been regularly updated and consistently amusing since 2001. It pushes the limits of sprite comics to the extreme, with quality writing, distinct characters and attention to detail. Don't want to register just for one comic? This is one of my favorite webcomics. If you just can't stand sprites, still try this one, it's hilarious. If you don't play videogames, still try this one. Clevinger's characters are amongst the funniest in all the webcomics I have looked at and their dialogue is always funny. I often get looked at funny at work because I'm laughing at this strip. On top of that, he's the most reliable webcomic creator that I read, I can't remember the last time he was late on an update.

When reading sprite comics, a "mixed" expierience is almost something taken for granted. Like it or not, the truth is that most sprite comics have their bad points as well as their good points. In the case of 8 Bit Theater, there are times that the recycling of old jokes becomes a bit tiring. (sword chucks, anyone?) However, from an overall standpoint the comic is definatly one of the best sprite comics in existence. If you don't like this one, you probably won't like just about any sprite comic. It manages to take you through a pretty darn funny journey of parody and adventure. All in all I'd say that it is at least worth a try for any webcomic reader.

The only sprite comic worth reading... Period. Laugh-out-loud funny at times.

Much love to this comic. Awesome writing, great plot, and I couldn't stop reading. Extra points for the Grampa Simpson reference early in the strips.
